Louisiana State University (LSU) has been in operation since 1869 and has another nine campuses in its university system that covers a variety of educational programs. LSU has the distinction of having more Truman Scholars, Rhodes, and Fulbright scholars than both Princeton and Columbia University. This speaks to the quality of the university’s educational programs.

LSU has been ranked a number of times as one of the 20 most popular universities in America by U.S. News & World Report. Additionally, students can expect to be part of an exceptionally multicultural environment with a student body from every state as well as over 100 countries.

In 2016 LSU was ranked #249 on Forbes’ list of the Best Value Colleges in the USA.

The Petroleum Engineering program has been accredited since 1939 and has access to the only well control research and training facility in the country. This gives students live training at what is known as the Petroleum Engineering Research & Technology Transfer (PERTT) Laboratory with access to six wells and related facilities which can be used for testing, research as well as educational purposes.

The department also offers 40+ undergraduate scholarships in partnership with major oil and gas companies which lead to its Bachelor of Science degree. In addition, incoming undergraduate students have the opportunity to participate in a six-week summer geology camp onsite, which gives them an appreciation of the geological requirements of the field.

Lousiana State University also offer students a full range of petroleum engineering degrees: bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. This is beneficial because students can stick to one program and build relationship with faculty and other students.
