Texas A&M University is one of the biggest universities in America with one of the broadest ranges of degree programs. Students can choose from over 240 graduate degrees. It was founded in 1876 and is internationally renowned.
It consistently ranks high in terms of value for money – it came #18 in the Best Value Colleges survey carried out by Forbes (don’t visit their website – it’ll melt your computer). Texas A&M also ranked #1 on a Smart Money ranking and #2 by U.S. News & World Report.
The Petroleum Engineering program is outstanding, hence its place on top of our lists. Stanford’s program is equally good, but their department is tiny in comparison and it’s easier to maintain quality over a smaller program. Texas deserve credit for having high standards in a large faculty.
Texas A&M also have a Master’s option that can be taken online – perfect for graduates who take a job but want to develop their career further.
There are six specialised research laboratories including the impressive Berg-Hughes Center (see video below).
Notable alumni include Mark Puckett, who rose to be president of Chevron, and Dennis Segers, CEO of semiconductor company Tabula Inc.
