The University of Houston was founded in 1927 and offers well over 120 fields of study to aspiring students. Located in Houston, the city is ranked number one by recent graduates as a place to live as well as access to key corporate and research opportunities.

The university is consistently ranked as one of the Best Colleges in the U.S by U.S News & World Report, as well as number four in the ‘Colleges Where Students Get the Best Bang for Their Buck’ list run by PolicyMic. The University of Houston is also now a Tier One Research university making it one of only three public universities in the state with that designation.

The Petroleum Engineering department at the University of Houston is located in what is commonly known as the Energy Capital of the World, due to the large presence of oil & gas companies in the city. This affords students access to many corporate sponsors, internships, as well as research opportunities in this growing sector.

Additionally, there is the University of Houston Energy Research Park next to the campus where a variety of sponsored industry research is conducted in cutting edge laboratories. The department currently offers Bachelor & Master of Science degrees with both thesis and non-thesis options.

Students also have access to the Engineering Career Center which offers an Industrial Scholar Interns Program as well as a Co-operative Education Program. Additionally, the department offers an innovative Career Connections professional networking option, where students can gain professional mentors in the university and industry to aid them in their career advancement.
