The University of Kansas also provides an online learning platform that provides students access to a variety of courses as well as certain degrees in defined disciplines.
The Petroleum Engineering department offers Bachelors & Masters of Science degrees with both thesis and non thesis options, as well as Doctoral degrees in Petroleum Engineering. The program at this department focuses primarily on reservoir engineering with the goal of improving the output of oil & gas fields so that production can be maximized. Additionally, a large part of the course instruction incorporates field trips to actual sites to gain expertise and better practical understanding of the mechanics of petroleum engineering.
The undergraduate degree also offers a “Capstone” project at the end of the degree where students can work collaboratively to analyze a current oil & gas field and present their results to the company which owns the field. This is a unique opportunity to present expertise and possibly firm up career prospects with future employers. Additionally, the department offers a number of scholarship opportunities to aspiring students based on educational performance.
