The University of Southern California is a private and coed university founded in 1880. Located in the heart of bustling Los Angeles, it has a current population of 44,000 students. It is made up of the USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, and 17 other graduate schools.

USC has the largest number of enrolled international students in the country at 24% (Fall of 2016). Its International Academy invites outstanding international students to take tuition in the University. In addition, its strategic location in Los Angeles has helped the school leverage relationships with cultural and research organizations in Asia and the Pacific Rim.

The University of Southern California is right up there with the best research programs in the US. It is among the best 10 Institutes funded by the government. In the fall of 2017, students and faculty of the university will see the unveiling of the USC Village. This is a $700M residential-retail project of the USC that will give the students more opportunities for living, learning, and retail environments.

The USC has 5 Nobel  Laureates, three MacArthur Fellows, eight Rhodes and 181 Fulbright Scholars, 1 Turing Awardee, 3 winners of the National Medal of Science, 82 Academy Award winners, 129 Emmy Award winners and the most Oscar winners. It also has the distinction of producing the 4th biggest number of billionaire alumni out of all universities all around the globe.

If you are interested in pursuing Petroleum studies in the USC, the Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science has masteral and PhD degrees in Petroleum Engineering. Unlike schools like The University of Texas at Austin or Colorado School of Mines, the USC Engineering department does not currently offer a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering studies.

Its Master’s and Doctoral degrees are available via the schools’ Distance Education program and as an online graduate program. The University of South Carolina’s Online Graduate Engineering program happens to place 1st in U.S. News & World Report’s 2017 rankings tying in with the University of California. The school’s excellence in petroleum engineering can be attributed to its small but focused programs, the university’s impressive research facilities and the convenience of major California oil fields nearby.
