West Virginia University was founded in 1867 and has a student body representing all 50 states and 113 countries worldwide. The university currently offers over 190 degrees of study and has 24 Rhodes Scholars, 22 Truman Scholars and 39 Goldwater Scholars as a mark of its educational excellence. There are 30,000 current students and more than 200,000 alumni.
There is a dedicated online learning platform that offers both graduate and undergraduate courses, as well as full online degrees in defined specializations. The department of petroleum and natural gas engineering offers a the full range of college degrees: bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. The program is one of only three ABET accredited programs in the USA which encompass both petroleum and natural gas engineering.
In addition, the placement rate for graduates is at 100% percent indicating the demand for professionals trained through these programs. Job offers come locally and from around the world.
The department also has well developed research facilities with four state of the art laboratories, a number of running industry research projects, as well as a dedicated research focus on removal of hydrocarbons from the Marcellus Shale located in the state and surrounding regions. With the explosive growth in shale production this is a rapidly expanding field of research, and offers students real world experience by being part of ongoing development projects in a fast growth industry sector.
